After you arrive in the stunning city of Phnom Penh, spend the afternoon walking through the historic corridors of the National Museum, lean about Cambodia’s ancient structures, culture and turbulent history. A visit to the Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and Wat Phnom will give you an insight into its colorful, more vibrant past and how the city gained its legendary name.

Set out to see the Choeung Ek Memorial, it is made of a staggering 8,000 human skulls, which marks the site of the infamous Killing Fields. Take a guided tour of the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and a former school that turned into Khmer Rouge torture center; which has an estimate of 20,000 people that were tortured.

On the third day, explore Angkor Wat, another stunning ancient monument which is a classic example of Khmer architecture. Angkor Thom was built around the 12th century and was the last capital city of the Khmer Empire. The temples inside the walls of Angkor Thom are notably the Terrace of Elephants, Bayon, Prah Palilay and others.

A visit to Bantaey Srey, the Citadel of Women is a great way to start a new day in Cambodia. You’ll also see the unique sculptures Prasat Kravan, Srah Srang , and explore the ancient and the most beautiful temples in Cambodia, built during the 12th century – the Ta Prohm Temple and Preah Khan temple. Ta Prohm, is known as the jungle temple as its enveloped by thick foliage, it was also featured in the Tomb Raider movie. Preah Khan is more preserved, through its ongoing restoration.

On your last day in Cambodia, enjoy a boat ride along along Tonle Sap Lake, the largest freshwater lake in southeast Asia. View the hidden Kampong Phluk Village and the local way of life at this fishermen’s floating village, built entirely on stilts, before your transfer back to the airport in Siem Reap.
